Gadhaiya Paisa - India (Chaulukyas) - c. 850-1150

Obverse: Crude bust right in stylized crown; Sri behind, circle in front Reverse: Crude, stylized fire altar with stylized attendands (lines for legs, crescents for arms, circles for heads) Circulated in the Gujarat region in the 8th to 12th centuries. The author Mitchiner suggests hat they may also have been issued by te Paramaras of Malwa. The existence of both a thin and a thick flan type may suggest two different mints. This coin is of the "thin" type, which is a relative term, as the flan is far from flimsy.
